How does ticket resale work for my event?

Created by Ticketing Support, Modified on Mon, 26 Oct at 2:55 AM by Ticketing Support

Buyers who can't make it can list their ticket for resale. When someone buys it, the new buyer gets a fresh ticket and the original stops working. You can follow it all under Resale.

Turn resale on or off

Resale is set for each ticket tier.

  1. Click Events, click your event's name, then click Tickets.
  2. Click the tier's name.
  3. Open Advanced Settings.
  4. Turn Enable ticket resale on or off. It's on by default.
  5. Click Save.

Track resale

Click Resale in the left menu. The cards at the top show:

  • Active listings: tickets listed and waiting for a buyer.
  • Sold: tickets resold.
  • Refunds pending: sellers who are still waiting to be refunded.

Each listing shows the event and session, its link code and visibility, the seller and how they paid, the original price, the listing price, its status (for example Sold, refund pending), when it was listed and how long it took to sell.

Click a listing to see the seller, the listing price, whether the Seller refund has been paid, and a Timeline: original purchase, listed, resale purchase and refund.

Choose an event, and then a session, to narrow the list. Click Download CSV for a spreadsheet of your listings.

How it works for ticket holders

  1. The ticket holder logs in, opens My Tickets and chooses List For Sale on the ticket.
  2. They set a sale price. A booking fee is added on top for the buyer.
  3. They choose whether the ticket is visible on the public resale marketplace, or shared only by their own link.
  4. They pay a small service fee to list it.
  5. Another buyer purchases it and becomes the new ticket owner. The original ticket stops working.
  6. The buyer's payment goes into your Stripe account. The seller is then refunded their sale price from your Stripe account, automatically, to the card they paid with. It usually reaches them within 5 to 10 business days.

The ticket stays valid until it sells, and the seller can take it off sale at any time.

Only tickets bought online can be resold, because the seller's money goes back to the card or account they paid with. Tickets you issue manually or sell through Box Office can't be resold.

Why it helps you

  • It costs you nothing. The buyer's money comes in and the seller's refund goes out of your Stripe account, so the whole process is cost neutral for you.
  • Sellers get their money faster than on other resale sites, which often only pay out after the event.
  • Fans who can't come don't need to ask you for a refund.
  • Tickets go to people who'll attend.
  • Resale stays on official tickets, so there's less risk of fakes.

Notes

  • Afterpay and Zip: the automatic refund to the seller only works within 120 days of their original purchase. After that it can't go back through Afterpay or Zip, so the seller needs to be refunded manually by bank transfer. Usually the seller contacts us and we send you their details.
  • If a seller's refund fails, for example because their card account was closed, we may ask you to pay them directly. We'll send you their details.
